Self-portrait designed by Olga Glebova-Sudeikina, the masquerade ballet figure depicted on point with hands raised and neck inclined, wearing a black headscarf, a blue and yellow costume with a central panel of pink roses, polka-dot sleeves and striated leggings, balancing beside a discarded black mask and other theatrical accouterments, on an incurved circular plinth.
Olga Glebova-Sudeikina (1885-1945), was a Russian femme fatale, actress, dancer, painter, model, porcelain sculptor and muse. In the 1920s, prior to immigrating to Paris, Glebova-Sudeikina worked at the State Porcelain Factory as a sculptor, where she created the figurines Psyche, Columbine, and Genius of Dance (now at the Russian Museum, St. Petersburg).
The figure Columbine was derived from a sketch by Glebova-Sudeikinas husband, the famous artist and theatrical director Serge Sudeikin. Later in Paris, her figures were fired at Sevres, and exhibited in the Museum Galliera in 1934 and 1935.
