British School (Second or Third Quarter 19th Century), "Portrait of a Lady", oil on canvas, unsigned, a "Charles Roberson/London" stamp en verso canvas, 30" x 24". In an antique frame.

Condition

Painting has not been relined. Condition consistent with age and material. Slight buckling to canvas in corners. Stretcher shadows along all four edges, with accompanying slight separation of paint layer along lower edge. Overall faint craquelure. Evidence of past restoration: old inpainting in area of background mid to lower left edge, scattered small areas along edges - does not interfere with face or figure. Some bubbling of varnish layer in darker areas of background around figure. Pinprick-sized areas of discoloration/soiling across face and neck. Dulling and darkening of varnish layer. Layer of surface dirt.
