Description
Meissen Porcelain Pastry or Cake Peddler, third quarter 18th century, German, from their "Cries of Paris" series, after a model by Peter Reinicke, the female figure depicted standing on a rocaille base decorated with molded flowers, her dress with typical Meissen hand-painted flowers, marked with a pen and ink "V" and an impression, h. 5-3/4", dia. 2". Provenance: Henry Stern Antiques, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Condition
Typical scattered small, well-integrated restorations--not readily apparent in some cases. The areas that fluoresce are at the raised shoulder and to the basket and handle. The rear base appears to be restored (although it does not fluoresce) hence the lack of the crossed swords Meissen mark. The edges of three pastry cakes with losses along with a loss to the forward cake-studded "flap" and to the tip of one leaf on the front base. All of the above consistent with age. See online detail for the impressed mark underneath.
