GEORGE LOUIS VIAVANT (1872-1925) was born in Lousiana and was to become one of Americas most acclaimed artists of wild life. Working primarily in Lousiana during the teens and 1920's, Viavant has been referred to as 'The Artist of the Hunt' by George E. Jordan, author of "George L. Viavant, Artist of the Hunt".
Viavant produced exquisite detailed drawings and watercolors of the fowl, birds, small game and the fish of Lousiana's bayous, lagoons and marshes. The Viavant family documents, chronologies and historical papers form part of the holdings in The Historic New Orleans Collection.
