Description
Fine Art Deco Figured Mahogany and Marble-Top Cabinet, second quarter 19th century, probably French, the rectilinear inset brescia marble top with canted corners, over a conforming case with a pair of doors in plum pudding veneer, raised on tapering legs, h. 40-1/2", w. 47", d. 17-3/8".
Condition
In overall very good condition. The case appears to be tight and solid, with normal minor wear, rubbing, abrasions and indications of age and use. The marble top exhibits normal small fleabites about its perimeter edge, and one shallow flake, about 1/4" in diameter and 2 or 3 mm deep. There are four small veneer losses to the inside edge of the doors. The largest is about 1/4" high by 1'4" wide, the smallest about 3 mm long and 1 mm wide. The decorative escutcheons are missing from the doors; their shadows remain. The interior exhibits the use of fine exotic veneers on the inside of the drawers and the face of the base and middle shelf. The middle shelf is lacking one of the two supports to fit in the sawtooth brackets.
