Description
The Jaguar Mk.I was produced from 1955 and 1959 and heralded the first unitary construction combining the chassis and body. It was an immediate success available with either a 2.4 or 3.4 engine option and pitched firmly at the middle-weight executive saloon market. The handling was the best in its class mainly due to a variation of the Jaguar D-type rear suspension and strong body platform. As a race car it soon emerged as the car to have with notable race drivers like Stirling Moss, Mike Hawthorn and Tommy Sopwith all enjoying wins. It further enhanced Jaguars positioning in the market place quite rightfully and showed all the virtues that Jaguar built their reputation on... Grace, Space and Pace.
Offered here is a Jaguar 3.4 Mk.I automatic that was distributed by Henley's London to the original dealer, Browns Garage in Bath in 1957. The first owner was a Mr. A.C. Phippen of Coombe Down. Finished in British Racing Green with green suede interior it still presents in very sound usable condition with an honest originality. It is said to drive very well and comes complete with a full MOT, handbook and jack. These early Mk.I have languished as 'fifties saloons' for too long but the market, and perhaps first time classic owners, are now starting to take interest. A great saloon in the best colour combination.
