In the period immediately following World War II, Jaguar cars immediately positioned themselves as major players in the burgeoning sports car market. Their success with the six-cylinder XK engines at LeMans put them on the map internationally and, with the introduction of the E-type, that performance was wrapped in a sensuous package.
By the late '60s, Jaguar executives knew they had a hit in America with the sensational XKE, and sales of the big cat stateside were brisk. Jaguar had achieved a look of timeless elegance from the very start, and the XKE had firmly established itself as one of the world_s finest sports cars by late 1969 when the Series II cars were developed, and the redesigned XKE now was offered with even more amenities and luxury than ever before. The Series II OTS, or Open Two-Seater, offered a smoother and more comfortable ride and, today, is considered a blue-chip investment vehicle that is always in demand.
The obvious visual cue to identify the Series II cars is the wraparound bumper in the rear, added to accommodate the upcoming U.S. safety mandates. A slightly larger grille opening and twin electric fans aided engine cooling, and the 4.2 litre straight six now sported stylish new ribbed cam covers. Inside, the venerable toggle switches were replaced by DOT approved rocker switches and, for driver comfort, the bucket seats were redesigned with far more supportive bolstering and modern headrests. Less obvious, but also greatly appreciated, were the reshaped floor pans and a new pedal arrangement that greatly increased foot-well room for the driver.
This lovely example was obviously very well-restored by a marque specialist, with fine panel gaps and a beautifully applied paint finish. It is very attractive in a spectacular combination of fine silver paint set off by the freshly fit black top and chrome wire wheels wearing Michelin Redline radial tires. It was recently given a comprehensive servicing, including the correct Series II exhaust system, new shocks all around, and a freshly refinished wood-rimmed steering wheel. It has received only maintenance miles since the servicing, and is fully ready to enjoy. Pop the bonnet, and you_ll see a well-detailed engine bay, featuring the correct dual reservoir hydraulic brake system and a high level of detailing. The engine sparks to life easily, settles down to a smooth idle, and sounds fantastic.
The interior shows like new, with fresh black leather seating surfaces, new wool carpets, and a full complement of Smith_s gauges flanking a period-correct AM/FM cassette stereo. Tools, spare tire, and jack are included with the car, which is currently showing just 33,547 miles. The Series II E-types are safe, sporting and highly reliable, so it_s no wonder Jaguar enjoyed unprecedented sales success.
Perennially near the top of everyone_s list of the finest vehicle designs ever, the E-type is universally regarded as one of the most desirable cars in the world, and is a favorite of driving enthusiasts everywhere. If an unmolested and well cared for E-type is on your bucket list, here_s a chance to buy one that is fully prepared to enjoy immediately.
