Good condition
This charming oil painting by the landscape painter Paul Lehmann-Brauns shows a harbour view. The subdued colours reflect the industrial atmosphere of the busy dock. During his lifetime the artist painted many naval motifs and harbour views. The work can be found in the catalogue raisonné by Elke Gennrich under the number ‘W 356’.
The work is in good condition with light signs of age and use. The work is signed lower left ‘Lehmann Brauns’. The stretcher shows various inscriptions by an unknown hand. The frame shows minor colour and material loss. Framed the work measures 58.5 x 72.5 cm. The canvas measures 50 x 65 cm.
Paul Lehmann-Brauns
Max Felix Paul Lehmann was born in Neufahrwasser in 1885. Since his surname was very common at the time the artist changed it several times. From 1930 he was finally known as Paul Lehmann-Brauns. The landscape painter lived in Berlin but found inspiration for his works in Hamburg, Potsdam, the Thuringian Forest and the Central German Uplands. The North Frisian Islands were his favourite subject matter.
