This colourful work titled ‘White Mercury, Flags of the Republic’ by the American artist Mark Erickson shows an abstract composition of bold colour planes hovering in front of a black and white background. Erickson’s oeuvre positions itself in the tradition of abstract expressionism and through a fascinating experiment with light and paint the artist manages to create works with an incredible expressive power.



This work by Mark Erickson is in good condition with only minor signs of age and use. It is signed lower right ‘Erickson’. The canvas is marked on the back ‘Mark Erickson© 9 1992 / White Mercury, Flags of the Republic‘. It measures 76 x 102 cm.



Mark Erickson

Mark Erickson was born in Hollywood, California. He studied painting at the San Francisco Art Institute and has taken part in exhibitions all over the US since the 1970s. Erickson’s works are characterised by an abstract formal language and bold colours showing influences by Henri Matisse and Willem DeKooning. Today Erickson lives and works in Oakland in the San Francisco Bay Area.
