Description
Mexican Maskmaker, [20th Century]. "Mexican Mask [Traditional - 0153]. From the State of Chiapas [Mexico]". Hand-carved, hand-painted polychromed natural hardwood sculpture with natural hair eyelashes. 1970s. A "danced" mask. Not made for the tourist trade or for sale, but created by the indigenous person to be used only in a ceremonial dance. Overall condition good. Provenance: From a highly important private collection, consisting of over 2,000 masks, Mexico City. Approx. 6in high, 4 5/8in wide, 2 1/2in deep (152mm x 120mm x 60mm). KM Inv #MA0046.
