The author's first book, preceded only by a pamphlet printing of a convention speech. The author's copy, with his holograph revisions for a second edition throughout. Laid in is a one page typed letter on Smith's letterhead, signed from Smith to a collector (Thyril L. Ladd) explaining the circumstances behind the revisions. I didn't know even that the thing had been set up until after it was all printed! So there were errors on some sixty-five different pages---and it was too late to do anything about it. However, when he wanted to bring out a second edition, I really took steps. I sent him a copy, with all errors marked and a few alterations (such as that "in a clasp of steel" on page 200. Cliches like that were OK in 1928; but no longer---and I missed a few of them in revising the MS for book form) made. Then he or the printer must have used the same copy for their guide in dummying the second edition..."
