George Washington: Pre-Presidential Liverpool Tankard. 4.75" tall mug or tankard with transfer portrait of Washington on horseback with a battle raging in the distant background. Inscribed: "His Excellency General George Washington, Marshal of France & Commander in chief of all the North American Continental Forces." We have seen this transfer on Liverpool punch bowls, but think the tankard is the rarer form. The transfer is extremely crisp and detailed with no discernible wear, scratches or other defects. We can detect no repairs or restoration. Obviously produced during Washington's lifetime, likely in the 1780's.
