Item Details
Description
Blues Legend - John Lee hooker's owned, played & signed limited edition Sheraton II (3p/50) Prototype Guitar. This 1998 Epiphone Sheraton II was given to Hooker by the Gibson (Epiphone) company in Memphis to celebrate his 50 years in music business. His son John Lee Hooker, who was with him at the time confirmed they were on tour at a small club outside of Memphis when they launched his signature guitar line of 50 limited edition Sheraton II's; a collaboration for the relaunch of one of Epiphone's greatest guitars - and Hookers guitar of choice. It also marked the 50th anniversary of Hooker 50 year anniversary for his first recording hit Boogie Chillin (1948). The 50 guitar's released were signed by Hooker on their blue tag. This guitar was played by Hooker in his home in Los Altos, California where he lived, played and recorded the Grammy winning album Don't look back in 1998. The guitar still bears his fingerprints on the gold pickups and strum scratches on the pickguard. The strings have not been changed since, and show play wear. The guitar was additionally signed on the body and passed to his son J.L. Hooker Jr. Provenance: From the Estate of John Lee Hooker. Notes: Hooker has a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, was Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991, Inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1980, Grammy Awards: Best Traditional Blues Recording, 1990 for I'm in the Mood (with Bonnie Raitt). Best Traditional Blues Recording, 1998 for Don't Look Back. Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals, 1998, Don't Look Back (with Van Morrison). Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000. Two of his songs, Boogie Chillen and Boom Boom were named to the list of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. Boogie Chillen was included as one of the Songs of the Century. Includes TLK road case.
