Description

RARE NANTUCKET BASKET TABLE - Sewing Stand with open basket at top in wicker set into turned and scribed top, having an inverted rim. Lower basket, in typical form, is also completely of wicker, suspended from two loops. Four-legged walnut frame. Made on the island circa 1880-90. 32" tall, 15 1/2" diam. Minor loss to the rim of the hanging basket. Nice patina. Very similar to one on page 46 of "The Lightship Baskets of Nantucket; A Continuing Craft", David H. Wood, Curator, published by the Nantucket Historical Society in 1994 as a catalog for their show. A copy is included.
