[NY] Jno. D. Van Buren (1811-1885) merchant from New York City, assemblyman in 1863, and Governor John T. Hoffman's private secretary. He became head of the importing-house of Benjamin Aymar & Co., NYC. He aided Sec. Salmon P. Chase in drafting tax, and other financial bills. He was a frequent writer for the press on financial legislation. ALS, 1873, 1p, to (Nelson Hopkins, State Comptroller). He wants copy of speech by Senator Jas. Woods for Gov. Hoffman. Tipped to another sheet.
