DRAGON (LONG). Jade. China, Qing (ca. 1800, early 19th century). LENGTH 10.6 CM
The fine quality white jade has been softly rounded to create a flat and tactile object. The dragon’s body curls around so that the head is located in the centre, and takes the form of a serpentine coiling into a hooked “S†shape. Both sides of the piece are rendered in low relief. Ex collection of the famous palaeontologist G.H. Ralph von Koenigswald, acquired around 1939 in Beijing.
