Description

19th century. Poplar, walnut, and walnut burl veneer. Having octagonal posts transitioning to square and having posts topped with Classical turning. Bolted construction with shaped rails. Drop-in headboard with inverted acorn decoration below arches, surmounted by leaf carved crest. Believed to be from the workshop of Thomas Day (Milton, N.C.) and found in southeastern Virginia. Weakness to joints of headboard. 78" x 64" x 81". Full size. From the collection of Howard and Anne Smith of Mayodan, North Carolina.
