History: Shortly after the American Revolution in 1783 and for nearly a century thereafter, England began shipping a very special kind of earthenware to the United States. The dinnerware was transfer-printed in blue on a white background and depicted scenes from the early years of these United States Dinner tables of the well-to-do throughout America were graced by plates, cups, saucers, and related dishes that celebrated - proudly and picturesquely - the birth of the nation. As the end of the 20th century arrived, examples of the blue and white dinnerware became scarce, now present mostly with museums, dealers, and private collections. These pieces are authentically made in the same way as the older works.
