Artist Biography: Chilean painter born in Curicó on August 2, 1880 and died in Santiago on June 29, 1964. Landscape painter of seascapes and animals, vital and colourful, is one of the most prestigious transit to 20th-century American art, although his work remains the academic orientation absent in artists already announcing a greater autonomy of the pictorial language.Born in a humble home formed by Pedro Nolasco Rebolledo and María Correa, he became interested in art at a young age and studied painting, sculpture and drawing at night schools. At the age of fifteen he was already installed in Santiago where, besides learning the poster art and decorative painting techniques, lived with a group of artists and enlightened workers (the so-called Cologne Tolstoiana) working on issues of social realism and that shared political ideals of anarchic dye. From this period dates the first works of Rebolledo, imbued with the combative spirit that animated him and so expressive without bread and world titles. Both its further evolution towards the landscape, bright and natural as these samples more linked to their early social reality, approach you the Valencian painter Joaquín Sorolla, the artist who most influenced the young Chilean painter, Pedro Lira, Juan Francisco González and Fernando Álvarez de Sotomayor, his teachers at the Academy of fine arts. He fled rather tenebrist trend of his fellow members of the generation of thirteen and, through a naturalistic technique in large-format oil paintings, reflected with vigorous colorful maternity, children, scenes depicting local customs of the countryside and beaches, animals (of low density plastic) and portraits (less notable production), as well as numerous still lifes of balanced composition and pleasant touch. Disdaining the theme, it was launched to capture Sun shapes and colors, introducing violent lights that underlined the volumes, in an easy to paint cut contours which, however, not melted with the atmosphere in the manner of the Impressionist artists (see Impressionism). Rebolledo stressed compositional simplicity of his works, in his drawing of broad brushstrokes that critics have perceived as free of theoretical concerns, instinctive, recreated in the surfaces rich and rough, accepting the impressionism. Some of its most essential elements are light, clear tones and thematic simplicity devoid of any significance. His first medal received it in the centenary Hall for her work sea laughter, and gained great recognition in the American continent with exhibitions, honours and awards. He was responsible for the restoration and copies for the Plafond of the Municipal Theatre and the ceiling of the Church of San Agustín religious scenes; in 1951 he was named illustrious son of Curicó, his native city and in 1959 received the national prize of art.Adverse to futurism, Rebolledo showed throughout his long career a broad mastery of drawing and composition and a great capacity to capture the effects of the Sun on the bodies of women and children in the midst of a joyful summer landscapes. Among his best-known works are faced the sea, walk on the sea, pickup and portrait of old..Chilean painter born in Curicó on 2 August 1880 and died in Santiago on 29 June 1964.
