History: The Ship TUSITALA, last full-rigged merchant ship to fly American flag, was built in 1883. In 1923, the ship became private yacht of U.S. Steel president James A. Farrell in 1923. It became a training ship for merchant seamen in 1939.The Tusitala, an iron-hulled sailing ship of 1684 tons, was named after Robert Louis Stevenson, who was called "Tusitala," meaning "storyteller," by the Samoans.
