Auction Announcement on July 23, 2014 at 1:30pm:

This wine is not a sweet dessert wine from Barsac but a dry white from Bordeaux AOC.

This lot comprises nine bottles of 2000 vintage Château Doisy Daëne from the Barsac appellation in Bordeaux.

Although everyone knows the sweet wines from Sauternes, hardly anyone has heard of Barsac. It is located around 30km to the South East of Bordeaux, on the left bank of the Garonne. The around 600 hectares of land under cultivation border on Sauternes to the North and were granted AOC status in 1936. Alongside a smaller proportion of Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle, the principal grape variety is the Semillon, which is predestined for sweet wines. The main stumbling block for the area is the fact that its sweet wines may be sold as Sauternes and the dry white wines as Graves, which makes shaping an identity somewhat problematic. Which winemaker would pass up the opportunity to market their wines under a far more prominent name?

Even wine critics seem unaware of this autonomy. Rober Parker’s described the 2001 Château Climens, which he awarded 100/100 points, as: ‘A Sauternes blend sweet white dessert wine from Barsac’. The most important and best vineyards are the Château Climens and Coutet (Top wine Cuvee Madame), both are Premier Crus from 1855, while the Château Doisy Daene (Top wine L Extravagant) is a Deuxiemes Cru. All three could easily compete with the best Sauternes.

The fill levels are excellent (into neck). The labels and capsules are in perfect condition.
