Description
19th century AD. A matched pair of beaded wire hollow earrings in 12th century AD style, each in the form of a bird with discoid cloisons to the eyes, feet and tail and a hollow spherical dangle to the beak; hinged hoop to the back, and each is inset with six cabochon rubies. 51 grams total, 65-66mm (2 1/2"). Property of a London gentleman; acquired 1990-2000. The rubies appear to be from Mysore, India, and are generally opaque to translucent. They may have been obtained during the period of Moghul rule in India.
