Description
After Andy Warhol (American 1928-1987). "Marilyn Monroe"-1970. Set of ten silkscreen prints on white paper. Group includes ten different color combinations of portrait of iconic actress Marilyn Monroe based on the publicity photograph taken by Gene Kornman for the 1953 film Niagara. Each are unsigned but have black stamp on verso "Published by Sunday B. Morning". The original prints of Marilyn Monroe were produced by the significant Pop Artist Andy Warhol, and are one of the artist's first large print projects. The original serial group was published by Factory Additions (Warhol's studio). After the sale of the original 250 Marilyn Monroe silkscreen prints issued by Warhol through The Factory, Warhol wanted to re-issue the original 1967 print series and contacting the Swiss publisher Sunday B. Morning. Some claim that Warhol forwarded his silkscreen to this publisher so that these may be considered "restrikes". As it is well-known, Warhol and Sunday B. Morning later had a disagreement regarding Warhol signing the Marilyn Monroe prints and Flower prints. Warhol signed some but not all. Each is unframed and measures 35.75" square.
