Description
Elvis Presley Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite Honolulu International Center Concert Ticket (RCA, 1973). By the early 1970s, Elvis was in serious need of a revitalization of his career, which had slumped due to many factors -- his increasing weight, the changing musical climate, and a series of poor choices by his management. In an attempt to turn this around, Colonel Parker arranged for a live via satellite concert event to be shown around the world, and Elvis did his part by shedding 25 pounds and enlisting help in redirecting his stage show to include an informal, "in the round" session with the singer performing with a small band, close to the audience. The trick worked, and the show was a huge success, winning new fans and pleasing his long-time supporters. Here's an unused ticket from that magical night (actually 1:00 am local time, January 14, 1973). The color photo on the 6.75" x 3.25" ticket includes Elvis within a globe on one side, and the late Hawaiian-born composer Kui Lee ("I'll Remember You"), in a globe on the right -- the show was planned as a benefit for the Kui Lee Cancer Fund. The ticket has just a hint of wear with one slightly rounded corner, but is otherwise in Excellent condition.
