Description
After Woodstock, there were numerous "hippie" music festivals planned and, because of Woodstock, a lot of them never took place. "Powder Ridge a Festival with Music" was scheduled for July 31 - August 2 at the Powder Ridge Ski Area at Middlefield, Connecticut. There was an amazing assemblage of musical talent planned with acts booked including: Sly & The Family Stone, Delaney & Bonnie, Melanie, Mountain, Joe Cocker, Allman Brothers, Jethro Tull, Janis Joplin, Bloodrock, Spirit, and Ten Years After. Middlefield was a small town and, worried about the massive influx of people, got a court injunction to cancel the festival. Not everyone got the message, though, and 30,000 arrived anyway with almost no music (Melanie did perform), no provisions, and no plumbing. The presence of numerous drug dealers and a lot of hallucinogens led to many bad trips. The ticket money was never refunded.
