Moonlit Harbor. British. Oil on board. Signed on lower right "Adolphus Knell". George Hughes, Newcastle, England label on verso. William Adolphus Knell was active in London during the nineteenth century. He was known for his oil and watercolor paintings of seascapes and boats. Knell’s marine paintings are characterized by a dramatic sense of light and atmospheric quality. William Adolphus Knell’s work was exhibited at the Royal Academy; British Institute, and Suffolk Street Gallery, London; and the Bridgewater Gallery, New York. His work is included in The Royal Collection, London, as well as the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh. Size 7- 1/2" x 10- 1/2".
