edited by Francesco Tatti da Sansovino, with commentary by Cristoforo Landino and Alessandro Vellutello, title with wood-engraved portrait of the author (possilby after Vasari) within elaborate historiated scroll-work frame, 96 woodcut illustrations (including 12 repetitions), 2pp. with printed marginalia, woodcut initials and decorations, woodcut cat device at colophon, spotting and marginal light soiling to title, fairly heavy browning affecting c.12 ff., some other foxing or light marking but mostly clean, paper flaw to lower fore-corner of HH3, old ink stamp to title, handsomely bound in modern calf with blind-tooled interlocking border pattern and corner flourishes, spine raised bands ruled in gilt and with gilt title and date in compartments, [Adams D103; Brunet II 504; Mortimer Harvard Italian 148], folio, Venice, Domenico Nicolino, for Giovanni Battista and Melchiore Sessa & brothers , 1564. The first Sansovino edition (also known as the Edizione del Gran Naso due to the striking portrait) , and the first to print the commentaries of Landino and Vellutello together. The woodcuts are those used for Marcolini's edition of 1544, but the portrait here was printed for the first time in this edition.
