To C.W. Bowen about an official of the Livestock Insurance Co. who was “a man of integrity and executive ability and very fond of animals”. Angell was a Boston lawyer whose lifelong passion was the humane treatment of animals, being founder of both the organizations he headed when he wrote this letter. The Massachusetts Society, organized in 1868, was the second oldest SPCA in America.
