Description
THOMAS MORAN (AMERICAN, 1837-1926) ETCHING, a fine, crisp impression on paper of a hunter in a wooded landscape, "Hunting Berkshires". Monogrammed lower left. Matted under glass in a black frame with gilt liner. Late 19th/early 20th century. 4 1/2" x 7" plate, 7 3/4" x 11 1/4" OA.

Catalogue Note: Thomas Moran (1837-1926) was arguably the most significant member of the important Moran family of artists. Both Thomas and his brother, Edward, are most often associated with the second generation of the Hudson River School of painters, and they both produced majestic views of the wild American landscape over the course of their respective careers. Thomas Moran is primarily recognized today for his atmospheric Western scenes, which were often executed on a grand scale. In 2008, a large Thomas Moran painting of the Green River Valley in Wyoming sold at Christie's for over 17 million dollars.
