Description
CHANCAY BICHROME FIGURE. Peru, ca. 800-1200 AD. The high status standing female figure with outstretched arms and high wide hat, her breasts and pubic triangle rendered in paint. Apparently she is also crying judging from the tears flowing from her eyes. 4.5 x 7.5 inches. Museum number on back.
Provenance: From a large New Jersey collection. Purchased by the current owner from a well known and highly respected Manhattan antiquities dealer in the 1990's.
