Description
A late Victorian gold pearl and diamond commemorative brooch, circa 1890, the oval-shape blue enamel panel with rose-cut diamond initial N detail, to the split pearl and vari-colour enamel foliate surround, with Jesus motif panel reverse. Length 3.2cms. Weight 14.1gms.
Condition
Overall condition good to fair. Surface scratches in keeping with general age and wear. The front blue enamel panel is significantly chipped to one side. Other enamel areas with scratches and small chipped areas. One white enamel flower deficient. Diamonds individual size and setting prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment. Estimated total diamond weight less than 0.05ct. The split pearls have light abrasion and nacre damage. The reverse Jesus panel possibly a replacement from a memorial hair enclosure. Reverse engraved '1st Communion Norah Berthhond 1st May 1897'.
