Two Dutch delft small Drug Jars, early 18th century, one inscribed 'T Alkekeng' in a cartouche matching the previous, the other inscribed 'Ox hydrarg' on a swag hung from a medallion inscribed 'U', 11.8 and 10.6cm, the first with contemporary brass cover (3) EW The first jar was for tabellae akekengi, lozenges of winter cherry; the other oxymel hydragyrum, a honey-based medicine of which the active ingredient was mercury, although 'active' one was unlikely to remain.
