Description
Tang Dynasty, 618-906 AD. A tall, slender hollow-cast figurine of a court lady standing with arms bent and hands at waist height, fists clenched and thumbs raised; the hair piled above the crown, the facial features serene and sensitively depicted with white slip; the neck slender with bead necklace, the robe tight, high-waisted and low-cut with tiered sleeves ending in long cuffs, stiffened shoulder projections; broad sash to the narrow waist, with scroll and floral decoration to the sleeves and trunk; below, a flared skirt with billowing streamers and tongue-shaped apron with triangular tabs; the cloud-toed shoes projecting from beneath the hem, on a hexagonal base. 2.2 kg, 43cm (17").
