The grande dame of German photography Rosemarie Pierer opened in the early 1950s in Hamburg her own studio, where Inge Feltrinelli learned her profession

Rosemarie Pierer, the Grande Dame of photography, was regarded a pioneer of multi vision in the fifties. At the young age of eight it was her biggest wish to get her own camera. Pierer is known for her photographs that are beautiful in the combination of highest technical standards with artful composition. Depicted here is the young Inge Schönthal, later Feltrinelli, posing in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Inge Feltrinelli was initially taught by Pierer in her studio in Hamburg.



The photograph is inscribed verso in pencil ‘Inge u. der Eiffelturm’ and bears the stamp ‘Aufgenommen mit Linhof Technika Standard Press’ and the copyright stamp of the photographer.

The photograph is apart from some blemishes to the edges in very good condition. The dimensions are 16.8 x 17.2 cm.



Rosemarie Pierer (1918-2012)

The German Photographer Rosemarie Pierer was born in Bernburg, but moved to Hamburg in 1949, where she founded her own studio. The famous photograph and model Inge Schönthal, later Feltrinelli, was trained by the Grande Dame of German photography in the 1950s. Pierer worked for the ‘Thalia-Theater’ and for many different companies, such as Beiersdorf, Deutsche Airbus, Philips, Chamber of Commerce in Hamburg, Maico. In her last years she concentrated again on portrait-photographs, among others Architect Hadi Teherani and former chancellor Helmut Schmidt. (tm)
