Description
This is an antique August, 1916 German cartoon periodical titled Kladderadatsch.
This magazine represented Satire and Society in Wilhelmine Germany. Text is in German but I see mentions/cartoons with Skagerrak, Balfour, John Bull, Admiral Jellicoe.
Cover is a fat toad drooling, wearing a top hat. Super imagery with bright intense colors. Interior has cartoons, photo of German officers holding magazine. All in German.
SIZE: 9 1/2" x 13", 10 pages. I don't know if this was originally only a 10 page magazine.
Kladderadatsch (onomatopoeic for "Crash") was a satirical German-language magazine first published in Berlin on May 7, 1848, and appearing "daily, except for weekdays". It was founded by Albert Hofmann and David Kalisch, the latter the son of a Jewish merchant and the author of several works of comedy.
In the beginning, the magazine had a conservative bias towards the policies of Chancellor Otto von Bismarck. After the 1923 takeover by the industrialist Hugo Stinnes, the tenors shifted towards German Nationalism and Nazism.
