Description
NEW ENGLAND GLASS CO. GREEN-TO-CLEAR TOILETTE SET, C. 1855, THREE PIECES, H 9 3/4":Including a pair of perfume bottles at H.9 3/4" x 3 3/4", together with a matching powder box, H.4 1/2", Dia.4", the cover surmounted by a ball form finial. Each piece of green over colorless glass is cut with trefoils and quatrefoils, and decorated with gold accents in a foliate and vine motif. No apparent markings to the glass. Mid 19th Century. Reference: "Libbey Glass" by Carl U. Fauster, copyright 1979, fig. 9 (see photo); this set was originally part of the author's personal collection. An identical three-piece set in ruby is held by the Corning Museum of Glass (accession number 73.4.25).
Condition
Light wear and fading to the decoration, one stopper has a nick, the other a crack (evident in the third photograph), faint scratching seen to the underside of the jar. Ln
