Description
[Land Transactions]. 3 Indentures on paper involving land sales by Allan Ayrault, under his power of attorney, on behalf of William Short, with Erastus Walker as purchaser. Partially handwritten, partially printed. Largest sheet: 16 1/4" x 20 7/8". Other 2 sheets 13" x 16 1/2". Contemporary folds, with a substantial degree of splitting. Edges moderately worn with light chipping. Varying degrees of minor foxing. ++ Land deed, in which “William Short of the City of Philadelphia Esquire by his Attorney Allan Ayrault” sold land to “Erastus Walker of the town of Allen in the County of Allegany (N.Y.).” Oct. 8, 1824. Size of the lot: 114 and 82/100 acres. Signed by Allan Ayrault, countersigned “Jerome Curtiss.” Sale price: $324. Mostly split along folds; verso has partial, unsuccessful repairs. Affixed at upper left with an old nail is a Livingston County, New York County Clerk’s office form. (The Livingston Co. Clerk’s form is printed, with blanks filled in by hand and signed “Sylvester Brown,” Jan. 12, 1825). Also affixed with the nail at upper left is a handwritten note, signed “S. R. Woodworth Surveyor,” and dated “Allen Sept. 8th, 1841.” ++ Contract/deed in which “William Short of the City of Philadelphia Esqr... virtue of a power of Attorney... recorded in the Clerks Office in the County of Allegany” sold land to “Erastus Walker of the town of Allen in Allegany County N.Y.” Aug. 18, 1829. The lot is diagrammed by a simple map to the left of the text. Sale price was $84.82. Signed by Short’s attorney below text. Verso’s upper right quadrant is countersigned by D. H. Bilsell. Affixed to verso’s lower right quadrant with red wax is a printed form certifying the signature of Daniel H. Bilsell, Aug. 25, 1829, blanks filled in by Chauncy R. Bond, a court clerk in Livingston Co., NY. Docketed on left of verso. ++ Deed, also also for a sale of land by Ayrault to Erastus Walker. Dec. 15, 1834. 63 and 51/100 acres, diagrammed to left of text. Sale price: $127.02. Signed by Ayrault. Docketed on verso.
