[WWII]. Several dozen items related to Commander Fletcher Lamkin. Mostly undated; those which are dated are mostly 1939. 4to or smaller. Condition varies; creasing, tear occur frequently, many quite worn. Sold with all faults. Includes: ++ Manila Golf Club scorecard (filled out, rules on verso have a 1937 effective date, blank for the date is prefixed with “193”). ++ Receipts issued by the Manila Golf Club (Mar 11, 1938); The Cathay Hotel Chefoo, China (dated “8th July 1939”), Cercle Psportif Francais (“29/6/1939”); Amoy Club, Kulangsu, Amoy; Chefoo Recreation Club (“8 Aug 1939” rubber stamp); and other businesses (worn). ++ Newspaper clipping (Headlined “Soldier’s Body Near U. S. Ship Threatens ‘Incident’). Text reads “Fletcher McCarty Lamkin, 22-year-old Birmingham boy on the U. S. S. Edsall near Shanghai, has been near enough the Chinese-Japanese conflict... For instance, he took $10,000 in U. S. Money to the Navy purchasing office in the International Settlement in Shanghai, to be disbursed to citizens who were evacuating...” Toned. ++ 8 press photographs (halftones), including 3 related to putting a ship into service, May 1, 1941. The 3 have text inserted in image in studio: "...U. S. S. (DD641) Captain W. W. Lamar (S.C.) U.S.N., driving first rivet in keel laying sceremonies. Keel laid on north side of building ways..."
