JAMES L. BRADLEY
(1901 - 1957) American general, Chief of Staff of the 4th Army who later commanded the 96th Infantry Div. at Leyte and then in the protracted campaign to take Okinawa. Rare war-date A.L.S. on Okinawa Shima letterhead written at the height of the battle, 1p. 4to., Apr. 25, 1945 to an admirer. He thanks the man for sending a clipping on the 96th's efforts on Okinawa, adding: "...I too think the Division has done a fine job and will continue to do so. The battle may be long but victory will be ours...". With a 96th Division patch sent by Bradley to his correspondent, and transmittal envelope. Old tape appears on margins of letter and envelope, still very good.
