Description
"DAS BUCH ISIDOR"
On May 5, 1927 Berlin police banned the NSDAP in the area of Berlin in an effort to maintain peace and Joseph Goebbels was banned from speaking publicly anywhere in Bavaria. In an effort to continue to communicate his propaganda to supporters and potential members, Goebbels commenced publishing Der Angriff ("The Attack"), and one of its specific aims was to ridicule Bernhard Weiss, the Jewish Deputy Chief of Police in Berlin. Goebbels never called Weiss by any other name but "Isidor" Weiss, a name that held strong anti-Jewish connotations to German ears, accentuated by the fact that many considered Weiss to be very "Jewish" in appearance. Goebbels' vicious anti-Semitic attacks on Weiss were used to denigrate the anti-Nazi police overall. In 1931, Goebbels published a collection of his Angriff cartoons and editorials in "Das Buch Isidor" ("The Isidor Book"), subtitled "A Contemporary Snapshot Full of Laughs and Hate", (Munich: Verlag Franz Eher), 1931. 165pp. octavo, with illustrations by Goebbels' favored propaganda artist, Hans Schweitzer ("Mjoelnir"). Front gutter cracked, else very good to fine. A very rare book!
