Description
BRITISH AIR MINISTRY "SCRAMBLE" BELL
Solid bronze bell undoubtedly used at an RAF base during the Battle of Britain to "scramble" or alert British airmen to man their aircraft immediately, or to herald their return from a mission. This bell, the largest type used, bears remains of the original red paint and is engraved with a symbol of the royal crown and: A. M. 1938. The clapper is suspended within, and it is likely a replacement although much wear from the use of the original clapper is evident within. A most evocative relic of "their finest hour". Approx. 50 lbs., additional shipping charges.
