MONITOR AND MERRIMAC PATRIOTIC SONG SHEET
A nicely illustrated printed Northern poem/song sheet, 1p. 8vo., written by Charles A. Clark entitled: "THE MONITOR AND MERRIMAC." Published by H. De Marsan, New York, ca. 1862, it reads in part: "…the Monitor went smack up to the Merrimac…Jeff Davis, how are you? Oh our Monitor beat your Merrimac quite handy…Ericsson he's around; in the world, there can't be found a people like the Yankee Doodle Dandy…on the eighth of March, the Merrimac…went rushing round, smashing everything she found…and Worden stopped her fun…to Jeff this ought to show: this this Monster is no go…with inventions of our Yankees' Doodle Dandy…". Nicely illustrated at the margins with a black banjo player, dancers, etc. Very good.
