Early abolitionist slave book "Picture of Slavery in the United States", by George Bourne (Middletown, Ct: Edwin Hunt), 1834. 228pp. 12mo., cloth boards, paper title on spine. An early abolitionist text concerning the evils of slavery, with very interesting descriptions of slaves as "citizens" and condemning "man-stealing". A small number of illustrations also present include "Ladies Whipping Girls", "Selling Females By the Pound", etc. Front cover loosening, spine worn and cracked, covers soiled and worn, some foxing within.
