(1899 - 1961) American writer, a Nobel prize winner and author of For Whom the Bell Tolls, A Farewell to Arms, The Old Man and the Sea, and other classic novels. Fine association pair of signed items, includes a signed check "Ernest M. Hemingway", Havana, Dec. 23, 1954, making a $100.00 payment to Robert Herrera. Endorsed on verso. Ink cancels somewhat affect signature. Sold with an A.N.S. on Hemingway's Finca Vigia letterhead, 1p. 4to., [n.d., ca. Dec. 23, 1954], a note which presumably accompanied the check: "Merry Christmas Don Monstruo Mister Papa". Folds, else fine. Herrera, a Spaniard who fled to Cuba following the Franco takeover, was a close friend to Hemingway. Two pieces.
