LOUIS B. MAYER
(1885-1957) American film producer, a founder of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (M.G.M.) who discovered Clark Gable, Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford and Rudolph Valentino. Fine content T.L.S. on MGM letterhead, 1p. 4to., Culver City, June 22, 1943 to Lieut. Gen. Robert C. Richardson, Jr. who had been appointed to command all Army forces in the Pacific and to serve as Military Governor of Hawaii. In part: "...It pleases me to have our Government and the High Command recognize your ability...We also have our problems, and it is quite a job making the type of pictures we are producing today...so that they will be particularly good for the Armed Forces. I was deeply interested...in talking with Mr. Murray...in charge of buying all films for the Army...there are now 1100 theaters in Army Camps...the first thing to be done...is to make 16mm prints which are sent all over the world for the servicemen...". File holes and a fairly large damp stain at top left, docketed at bottom, else very good.
