Description
PRISONER-MADE FOLK ART CRUCIFIX
Folk art crucifix said to have been made by a prisoner at the Mansfied Reformatory, also known as the Ohio State Reformatory which operated from 1886 to 1959. The 10 1/2" tall ca. 1950 cross is made of hundreds of used wooden matchsticks which have been glued to a frame made of match boxes. The cross was then sprinkled with glitter and a wood Jesus figure was applied at center. Some of the matches have been lost. Consigned by a prominent Gettysburg museum.
