"RED CHANNELS"
Rare book, Red Channels, (New York: American Business Consultants, Inc.), June, 1950. This publication, issued by the anti-Communist organization "Counterattack", lists hundreds of actors, actresses, and other individuals associated with the entertainment and news media, and lists the organizations with which they are affiliated which "Counterattack" deems to be Socialist or Communist associated. Each organization is also described in the appendix. Among those chosen for attention is Orson Welles, Howard K. Smith, Edward G. Robinson, Gypsy Rose Lee, Dashiell Hammett, Langston Hughes, Ruth Gordon, Will Geer, Lee J. Cobb, Leonard Bernstein, and many others.
