President Andrew Jackson would carve canes for Captains in the Army and would put his initials on the knobs in the wood. This cane was purchased from Roupen Gulbenk who was commissioned to restore Andrew Jackson's home in Nashville, The Hermitage of Andrew and Rachel Jackson, to its original state. He was also the foremost authority on American antiquities.

First and foremost, this is no ordinary cane: it is a piece of history that came from Andrew Jackson's hands. Underneath the silver handle there are two separate silver plates and bands. There are branch stubs - 13 in total - that jut out slightly from the shaft. Each one of these stubs is tipped in silver and there is a flourished initial carved into the medal, which when spelled out equate to "Andrew Jackson."

The age of the cane makes it a bit difficult to make out the inscription, but the following is what was able to be recognized on the top of the cap: "_______ of And W Jackson / 8th of Jan 1818 / Harris Billings." Please note that Jackson's first name is intentionally missing the "-re,” as it appears to be an approved abbreviation of “Andrew.”
