hallmarked, London 1839, John Edward Terry, retailed by Wordley & Mayer, Liverpool, of baluster shape, on four foliate scroll feet, lower body with four panels separated by foliage motifs, to one side floral motifs, the other presentation, tall plain neck with floral and foliage rim, lightly domed hinged lid with floral finial, boldly molded s shape handle and floral decorated spout, the body engraved J.N.G inscription reads 'Presented/as a token of/respect & esteem/by the parishioners/of St Michaels, Berbice/to the Reverend J.N. Garland/Rector/ on his leaving the parish/1839, total weight 985gm, h 25cm Catalogue Note: Berbice is a region along the Berbice River in Guyana, which was between 1627 and 1815 a colony of the Netherlands. After having been ceded to the United Kingdom in the latter year, it was merged with Essequibo and Demerara to form the colony of British Guiana in 1831. In 1966, British Guiana gained independence as Guyana. The parish of Berbice is believed to be in the old British Guiana which was finally settled by the British after being bought from the Dutch in 1831" Brian Eggleton
