The ‘Mappe der Gegenwart’ was published in 1925 as the 42nd print of the Marées Society and originally comprised 42 facsimile drawings and watercolors on different papers. The sheet 32 is lacking in the present portfolio. Reproduced in the technique of collotype printing were works of the most important artists at that time from Germany, France, Austria, England, Switzerland, Italy, Norway and the United States. The sheets are each mounted in a mat with consecutive embossed numbering. As artist, amongst others, are represented Oskar Kokoschka, Franz Marc Pierre Bonnard, Maurice de Vlaminck and Ernst Barlach.

The ‘Mappe der Gegenwart’ comprises 41 instead of the original 42 facsimiles, each mounted in a passepartout. The hinges of occasional sheets are disengaged, one sheet has fine creases in a lower corner, partly the hinges show through to recto. The straw-covered portfolio is with significant signs of use and age. Overall the leaves are in good condition. They measure from ca. 13.5 x 6.5 to 44 x 58.5 cm. The portfolio measures 64.5 x 49 x 4.2 cm. (fea)
